Flexibility is the most mysterious aspect of fitness, often thought to be out of reach if you are not born with it.

Flexibility does not have to be superpower only mastered by the lucky few.

It is possible to determine the cause of chronic inflexibility and to train range of motion the same way we train strength. When you understand how and why the body gets tight you can apply specific techniques to change that pattern and increase flexibility at any age. This increased range of motion is just as important to being a fit, healthy person as strength and cardio.

This workshop addresses the theory and mechanics of stretching. We will take you through the various anatomical structures that can potentially restrict movement and how to safely release them. Topics will include:

  • How to determine the source of a restriction
  • Basic functionality of muscles, fascia, and the nervous system
  • Why bodies get tight and stay tight
  • Techniques for increasing mobility including passive, active, and dynamic stretching, myofascial release, nerve flossing, and isometric contractions
  • Common muscle imbalances and how posture affects flexibility
  • Specific examples of how these techniques can be used in each area of the body including feet/ankles, legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and neck.

This workshop is perfect for:

  • Anyone who is passionate about fitness but feels like flexibility training is still a black hole
  • Trainers who want to help their clients without hurting them and reduce injury rates
  • Flexibility pros who want to better understand their bodies to fine-tune their training technique

The workshop is primarily lecture-based with some practical work. Students are welcome to join the morning Fit & Bendy classes to get a dose of applied stretching.
